Freelancing is not something that is necessarily done through online advertisements on websites.

It is not a new concept and known by a variety of other names such as contracting or even being self employed. When looking for "freelance" work, I don't think that you should restrict yourselves to online websites, but look at more traditional sources of work such as recruitment agencies, adverts in newspapers and networking through contacts.
