Default Work from Home Transcription

Hello all!

As most of you know, I'm a Virtual Assistant (VA) and part of my services include general transcription. During my travels, I've had the great fortune to work with a wonderful expert in this field. Her name is Susie Ward and she runs an awesome website and forum DEDICATED to transcriptionists worldwide.

For anyone who's entertaining the thought of getting into this type of work-at-home business, the first place you should look is at Susie's site. It's called "Transcribing for Dollars". It's the first no BS site I've ever seen. No promises, no hype...just pure simple facts. There's a ton of valuable information there, and I respect this person's opinion and reputation to no end.

I don't recommend sites easily. In fact, I tend to avoid it like the plague. (Those of you who know me and have read my articles know that I tend to be the "anti-marketer"! LOL)

Anyway, here's her site. If you're considering working as a transcriptionist, this site will really give you a fantastic overview of what's truly involved.

How do you get the transcription work? Does cold calling work?

That's a very valid question. I've never tried that. My first transcription client approached me directly because she saw my name in a VA directory.

A lot of transcriptionists seem to work as sub-contractors for larger companies that are more established. If you apply to work for them, there's normally a short transcription test required so they can get a feel for your skill level.
