Has anyone ever had a business of sort where they sponsored folks to wear their clothes or use their gear? I'm thinking automotive or sports related? or anything else...

Just wondering what kind of experience people have here.

My dad and I are discussing the possiblity of starting another business on the side and I'm thinking about getting back to my roots. When I was a kid I very badly wanted to move to Cali and open a "Bikes and Boards" shop (I raced BMX). We at one point ran a small toy and comic book shop, but I'd rather not go that route again. the fellow who knew that stuff the best is no longer with our company. That, and I think the majority of the money to be made there is in staying on top of the new releases. I don't want to have to completely upload new products every Tuesday when the new comics, toys and movies come out.

so anyhow, back to the sponsorships. Anyone have experience? I'm thinking it's a good way to get a sports related company off the ground. Plus, the search numbers on overture are astounding compared to the industry I'm in now (which I thought was already pretty good!). so I know there is a huge online presence of both customers and competitors.
