Here's a link that might help: What Are You Trying to Accomplish?, by Michael L. Perla. The author asks a series of questions which he says are "a good first step in starting a dialogue around customer value drivers, company adaptation, and customer wants and needs." The questions are tough to answer, but it sounds like it might be a good idea to start asking them.
