Default PPC vs. Print Ads

Please let me know if this is beating a dead horse. I looked around the forum and didn’t see anything that really compared the PPC and print advertising.

I have been marketing online for several years now and have been fairly successful. I normally do PPC’s and SE’s etc. With PPC’s I am reaching my target audience but it does cost me a lot to obtain 1 customer. I average 1 customer per 50 clicks. Which is not bad in my opinion.

Now I am thinking about doing more offline marketing through newspaper ads. One paper I am looking at can get my 1 x 1 ( about half the size of a business card ) ad showing 4 times a week in front of 1.5 million people for only $250. To me that is a great deal. I have no idea of what my conversion rate would be. I would think it was great it I got 1 customer per 100,000 people, about 15 new customers. Unless my math is wrong that is a .001 conversion rate. That is less then PPC but in the end would cost a ton less.

What do you think? Is that really high expectations? Anyone have any display ad experience that can give some feedback?

I did a display ad reaching 10000 and I got nothing from it. You would be reaching more people so you have a better chance of getting a response. I would say try it. Also ask the company about their repurchase rate, how many people advertise over and over.

I think that sounds as a good way aswell.

We do bottom feeding PPC and it actually works quite well. $.05/click

I try for the "bottom feeding ppc" but have a heck of a time finding those key words that actually get any impressions.

How long did you advertise? There is another paper that has 10000 readers like yours that I was looking at too. But they are talking to me about running ads for 8 weeks or more.

With an ad that size, it's KEY that you have a
large and attention grabbing headline.

The circulation doesn't mean a thing if no one
ever sees the ad, so BE DIFFERENT!

It's certainly worth a test. There's very little
way to know how the market will respond
until you do.

Might I suggest Yellow Pages Advertising?

I tried both printed advertising as well as pay per click advertising for my online travel company and I was able to track the results. I received a much better return on investment from my pay per click advertising campaigns.
