This is a pretty long list and perhaps too much to consume at once, but it should help you get a feel for what types of things you can do on the web.

Driving traffic to your site
1. Keywords
a. Research the overture/google suggestions
b. Sign up for wordtracker.com
c. Use gorank.com
d. Also check out instantmarketingsecrets.com/keyword.htm
e. And smtek.info/cgi-bin/keywordtool.cgi
f. Searchguild.com/diffculty will rate how difficult to rank for certain keywords
g. Get expected traffic from

h. Visit your competitor's web pages and look in the title and meta tags.
i. Look over your past customer testïmonials, and see if there are any keywords you can use. This strategy lets you get inside your customer's mind to produce more market centric keywords.
j. Consider synonyms.
k. Think of singular and plurals keywords.
l. Use hyphenation and variations. Example: webhosting, web hosting, web-hosting
m. Use abbreviations and misspellings.
n. Combine your keyword phrase into one word.
o. Use "space" and "+" with keywords. Example: web+hosting, web +hosting
p. Visit Crossword Compiler and download their demo software. Plug in your keywords and discover a multitude of additional words.
q. Once you have your list compiled visit Keyword Tumbler and download the frëe software. Put your keywords into a text file and then let Keyword Tumbler generate multiple variations of each keyword phrase you have
2. Metatag Design
a. Use a maximum of 24 words/phrases in your meta tags
b. Use phrases that describe your site
c. Use the words and phrases in your metatags/description in your site copy
d. Gorank.com will tell your keyword density (seek 3-4%)
e. Test your search engine friendliness

b. Make use of customer sites and affiliate programs
c. Seek industry directories for link trading or article/release submission
i. DMOZ Directory
1. If your site is listed here, go directly to its category and research. If not, locate the category in which it’s most likely to be listed.
ii. Yahoo! Directory
iii. Google Directory
1. Google lists from highest page rank to lowest, hence the sites at the top of the list would be better for link exchange.
iv. Beware of Link Farms: Sites that have tons of links with no specific affinity.
v. Requesting a Link
1. Look for webmaster’s contact info within site
2. Link to their site from yours already
3. Provide commentary on an interesting part of their site
4. Don’t threaten to remove if no reciprocation
5. Only link to sites that provide value to your users
d. Use Google GARBO to find similar sites for link exchange

i. Post on your own site with a pre-licensing statement that allows others to grab the articles and post on their site. Make sure that you give them a specified url to use
