Default Flyers on Cars

Is it legal to go to large parking lots (ie Walmart, Supermarkets, Malls), and put a business card or flyer on car windshields? Is it up to local laws or store/parking lot policy?

I dont know about the legality of it but i would imagine that you wouldnt be able to do it without the permission of the owner of the carpark. Also you would probably be best to at least contact the local authority to ask what the laws are that may relate to this.

Eg you may be fined with littering or somthing if everyone just rips it out and throws it on the ground or somthing. You may not commit the offence but if your papers are found there then you may be the one that gets the problems

Not to mention the fact that that method of advertising is about as effective as popup ads for me. I refuse to patron companies who use either of those methods of advertisement. I also don't do business with phone sellers. It's just the way I express my vote against those methods of advertising.

I don't want people touching my car, or pulling up my windshield wiper, or leaving their trash on my car. Maybe that's just me, but I know if you leave an advertisement on my car you've just guaranteed yourself one less customer.

Ya, I understand that point of view. What about flyers house to house (doorhangers). Not as offensive?

I agree with TexasBlack6...stay away from people's vehicles...too much chance of negative backlash. BUT...your vehicle on the other hand...how about if you had some window or door lettering that tell people what your business is and how to reach you? It's inexpensive advertising that is always working for you! Good luck!

I agree with Mike's post. I do always read advertisements on people's own cars.

As for flyers on doorsteps or mailboxes, I would say these are 1 step above the flyers on cars, but still pretty close to worthless. I suppose if you include coupons on your flyers, some people may seek out your business. I don't generally pay much attention to these flyers and I still do find them somewhat annoying.

Hey everyone (my first post here). I decided to step in about advertising on cars. I recently saw a picture which I thought was a great marketing technique.

For my business we use flyers on homes. That alone does generate some calls but I have found flyers on doors are like junk mail if you dont give a person a reason to open it nothing will happen.

For example instead of leaving a flyer on the door leave a flyer in a small mailing tube with your companies name on it. Everyone will open the tube to see whats inside. Which in turn should get you more leads.

Back to the original question - MOST localities have ordinances against what you propose. It tends to become litter.

I have a business in a mall, and I know the mall does not allow it, either. I'm sure not only becase of the litter in their lot, but because they make no money on it....
