Default Advertising your business? (quick question)

Hey, I have just setup a web hosting company with a close work colleague.

There are many other web-hosting companies out there, but I’m curious to know what are the best LEGAL and COST EFFECTIVE advertisement strategy to get more hits to your site?

We already sponsor a few online gaming teams / and other corporations providing them with free services etc…

Business is taking off but its slow, I’m told by people ‘word of mouth’ will do the rest of it once your big enough. – But its just getting to that stage.

Kind regards, David (UkTecHosting.com Support Admin)

Have you defined a target market? You couldn't even begin to answer that question until you define your market.

How can this happen?

Quote:
I have a lot of webpages and quite a few of them are taking around 3,000 unique hits per month and the sales from them are few and far between indeed.

Just a scenario.

The solution to building your business volume in the past has been "do more numbers" and I'm not going to say that does not apply -- but it's LESS important now that "doing the customer right" -- i.e. -- customer service, support, community (hitching up customer to customer), etc.... (a dozen posts in itself)

Tracking hits and impressions is "feel good" stuff if you ask me. It also has it's "roots" in the world of offline advertising/marketing and "TV/radio/paper" advertising that is showing EXTREME signs of stress -- i.e. -- it ain't workin' like it use too, especially online...

If you learn how to network, you will NEVER need to pay for advertsing.

Here's a clip...

"Ask a seasoned entrepreneur if they would rather network than prospect and you'll get the same reply every time - hand's down. Networking is rubbing shoulders, communitizing, and generally "doing business" with respected peers. Its what makes the chambers of commerce go 'round. Conversely, prospecting/advertising consists of pitching, advertising, driving traffic, list-building and a little hyping for good measure. "

I suggest you join some Webmaster related banner, link and exit exchange program. Plus if possible give out some freebie like 20 megs free hosting and post to all freebie sites. Also try to sign up some hosting discussion forums like www.webhostingchat.com. to post offers.

Building up a hosting business requires patience. Don't aim for the cheapest clients out there. The first 50-100 clients will take the most time. After that word of mouth will eventually take over and help - if you are providing reasons for people to recommend you. Advertise in your local newspaper - it's cheap and local businesses rather deal with someone in the same city.
