They actually have businesses like this?

This is a very pleasant, but busy business in a high growth area. The primary business is the placement, removal, and storage of temporary signs for real estate companies in its trading area, which currently includes all of Brevard County, Florida. They are the "go to" company for more than 30 real estate companies, from 40 or more agents to single broker firms. These are both residential and commercial firms. There is no selling or interfacing with the general public. The business has grown beyond the ability of the owner to keep up with it because of his advanced age and limitations due to health. At its present size, it can be run by an owner and one employee with a truck. Orders come in by fax from clients, who are billed twice each month. Aside from a small warehouse, which serves as the company's depot each day, the rest of the business can be run from home. This makes an excellent family business with flexibility to make your own hours and great growth prospects

By temporary signs do you mean yard signs? The real estate company gives you the signs and addresses and you just have to go put them in the ground?

I'm curious because I'm thinking of a similar type business.

Placing signs is a good business. But I can think of a business addittion to that you could do too. If you could both do the signs placement and the photography of the house I think you'd capture more work. It means two trips of course. Even better make the signs too or have them made and sell/lease/rent to the agents.

Some people have been building signs with lights run by battery so people at night can read them, other's have an FM radio low power transmission of the house's description, so if you drive by, see the FM frequency it's on, you just tune to that frequency and listen in on what the agent says about the house.

Other agents have a pocket containing brochures detailing the house and with a picture.

Will we see signs saying 'iPod compatible' next... hehehehe

No one has seriously put intelligence into house for sale signs and it's probably about time someone did.

I noticed that 10 out of 10 times, a product would sell for a higher end price if I started the bidding lower.

as a buyer I have taken advantage of this and tend to look for items with higher starting bid prices because all too often people will bid up those penny auctions way to high.

lower starting price = more bids. more bids= more bidders = more competition = less clear thought = pay more. haha.

something else I used to do, to go your flea market/goodwill... take a look at products you think would sell at a good margin and even write down the product + cost. Go home and check it out on eBay. If it's got potential, go for it! I started doing this because I got sick of having soo much unsold stuff hanging around.

this seems like a fantastic idea, easy, yet profitable...
