Glad we could help waddle. The amount of money you need to start a business depends on the type of business. Some will need a good amount a start-up capital others can be started for practially nothing. I think I was able to start my business for under $500. It probably would have been a good idea to have more, but there wasn't much that was absolutely necessary for me to get. A computer was my most expensive requrement and I already owned that.
Now if you're looking to lease a store and build up some inventory you will need more money, but even then the amount will depend on the specifics. There's a lot of business you could probably start for under $20,000 and also a lot where you'd need over $100,000.
I know you want out of your full time job, but I'd recommend hanging on to it just a bit longer. I think the first step is deciding on the business you want, which is obviously what you're doing now.
One thing though is not to take the decision lightly. No matter what business you choose it's going to take a lot of hard work and a lot of time so you might as well find something you enjoy. It doesn't have to be your favorite thing in the world, but it should be something you can deal being around for 8, 10, 12 hours a day.
