Default How long till first sale?

Hi all,

I opened my furniture store 3 weeks ago. This is my first retail business. The products are really fine, the prices are right (upmarket, though), enough advertising, even some visitors (about 15 in 3 weeks). But no sales yet. How long shall I wait? :-(

I'll highly appreciate your experiences of YOUR first sale, especially from furniture, but not only.

That first sale can often be ellusive, but it will come. The problem is, it might take a while if you just wait for it to come to you. General advertising is not going to cut it. You need to go and find your customers. It sounds like the stuff you carry is up-scale, high-quality stuff. What kind of avertising are you using? This also sounds like a store-front. Where are you located? A back-alley, near a freeway or on a main small town road?

My question to you is, "How long do you wait" for what? What are you waiting for? Are you saying, how long before you quite and throw in the towel? Go until you can't go any longer!

You need to stop waiting and start doing! Start reading some sales books to hone your sales technique. Maybe you could contact some interior decorators and showcase your furnishings. HGTV always seems to have the coolest design shows. Partner up with a designer and maybe they'll start using your stuff in their designs. Showcase at local art shows. Check in with real estate dealers, sometimes they like to show homes with furniture in them or offer a package/discount to new home buyers in the area. Maybe consider a website and sell pieces online. EBAY!!! The options are limitless.

Waiting for 15 people in 3 weeks to buy one thing... Close your store now. Get out there and sell your stuff. Don't wait for them to come to you, you go to them. Stay up, stay positive!

You mentioned that you had enough advertising... what advertising medium are you using?

Also, what area of town are you located? Affluent area, suburbs, dowtown... as they say in real estate... location, location, location!

OhioDave, infomodo,
thank you for your replies.

I'm located in one of the most affluent suburbs, shopfront facing a major highway. Please excuse me for the incognito mode, I do prefer not to say where exactly I am.
