When you say track calls, what are you referring to? When you call an 800 number, chances are that the owner of that 800 number will have your phone number and some systems are able to get your address as well from that (lead generation)

And usually real estate agents use these the most to grab leads. There are some other companies that use them as well. I wished we had it on ours on a few phone calls actually.

I was thinking of some kind of advertising tracking. Like if you advertise in New Mexico, did you get calls from there?

Yes - basically same thing as real estate agents do. You record one message and have it go to multiple extensions. So say extension 101 is New Mexico, 201 is Texas, 301 is Arizona. They press 301 & you know they saw the ad in AZ.
Or the same as sign riders, newspaper ads, email, postcards, etc

Some larger companies also have many different 800 #'s. For example, some banks have a personal telephone banking line and another for business, but if you're on the business line you can get through to an support representative quicker because you're a higher "priority".
Than there are companies which use the method above which is to have just a different extension. Both work!

A good place to get a toll-free number (800, 888, 877, 866) number from would be Kall8. I have used them for the past 8 months and have just had them forward the calls to my cell phone. When my cell phone is off, it forwards to my e-mail's inbox where I download the message via mp3 or wav format. I'd be lost without Kall8... for $2/mo you can get a toll-free number and they only charge you 6.9¢ per minute.

A few other places are Freedom Voice, Ring Central, and Toll Free Express as well as Kall 8. Those I think are the larger ones that service the smaller companies (as well as some larger ones as well).
Most of the other sites out there are usually resellers / affiliates of these companies. One thing you have to make sure though is that your toll-free number is yours and if you change to another company, you can move that number

One quick note - the companies listed above are more like virtual offices. They offer extensions, follow me live, hold music, net call, live call transfer in their plans, call announcement, etc in all their plans.
If you just needed a tol-free number to terminate to your phone number, then any of the major carriers (AT&T, vonage, etc) would be able to help you out.

We actually use Freedom Voice as well. We have been with them for about six months and extremely happy with their services. We have referred a few associates over as well and they give us a free month
