Default P.O. Box?

Do you know if it's possible to register a P.O. box for an address of a new business instead of a home address? This would be for a home-based business, and I'm a little leery of using my home address in case the unthinkable happens. I know FedEx doesn't ship to P.O. Boxes, but I'm just wondering...

If the new business is in your house then that's the address the Post Office is going to use. As far as I know you have to have a physical address connected to the P.O. box.

Consider contacting one of those companies like Mail Boxes Etc, etc. You can get Fed Ex and all the other comanpies to deliver to there.

The places Cory mentioned will also allow you to use an actual address instead of a po box # if I'm not mistaken. The address is their address. Sometimes customers trust a business more that has a street address over a po box address.

I am pretty certain Vangogh. I had one similar when I first got out of the military. The address looked similar to an apartment number. It was like 123 Main St, # 987 and you could use suite, etc.

These are usually a bit better actually, although getting a PO box is much more difficult than getting something from mail boxes etc, etc.

That's exactly what I meant with the address. I think it just costs a little more to get the address through a mail boxes etc or the UPS store than it does to get a po box address from the post office. At least it does in my area. The small extra cost would seem to be worth it though to get that street address.

The 'real' addresses that are at places with mailboxes are often referred to as 'mail drops.'

In metro LA, mail drops go for about $15-$18 per month.

They accept regular mail and small packages normally.

The only reason you would not want a home address is because you are thiniking of dodgy things. Any legtimate business would not want to do that.

Did you think that we would assist you?

When I put my home address on my business card, my wife freaked out, thinking that it would somehow bring harm to her, or my family.

Thanks everybody for your replies, they were helpful. I guess I was just paranoid about having some 'unexpected visitors' come to my house because I'd use my home address for a business. I don't think I'll mess with a P.O. Box for now.
