Default Phone Service and "Unlimited" Plans

I am looking into VoIP phone plans right now. I find that there are "unlimited business plans," but I wonder if there are realistic limits on this. There are places like www.broadvoice.com that have these plans, but I am wary that the phones will get cut off for excessive usage (I expect each line to be in almost constant use).

Right now I'm using a place that charges 2.9 cents per minute, I can knock that down to 2.5 or so cents per minute if I buy a $1,000 block of minutes... with higher discounts as I buy larger blocks.

Is there a better way to do this? Anyone have experience in this area? All calls are made to and from the US.
Also, if anyone has experience with regular land-lines, that'd be helpful to.

We use Vonage for our VOIP service and we are pretty happy with them. We do not use them as much as you do and we have had them for probably about eighteen months. And with their referral service, we have probably received ten months for free. BroadVoice seems pretty good as well if you call that many countries.

I am on a number of forums and I have never heard anyone complain of getting shut off because they called and spoke way too much and with as much as people tend to complain on forums, I am guessing I would have seen that at least once.

I had found some posts like this:
http://voxilla.com/PNphpBB2-printvie...5-start-0.html
...which made me a little wary about going with an "unlimited" plan. I'm not sure. If you look at broadvoice's website, on all of the unlimited plans they have an asterisk (*), which denotes "unlimited plans are subject to significant limitations." I would guess that Vonage would be the same?

I only found
Quote:7.4 Termination/Discontinuance of Service
BroadVoice reserves the right to suspend or discontinue providing the Service generally, or to terminate your Service, at any time in its sole discretion. If BroadVoice discontinues providing the Service generally, or terminates or suspends your Service in its discretion without a stated reason, you will only be responsible for charges accrued through the date of termination, including a pro-rated portion of the final month's charges. If your Service is terminated or suspended for any stated reason, including without limitation, violation of any terms of this Agreement, or because of any improper use of the Service or Device (such as, but not limited to, your attempts to hack, disrupt, or misuse the Service or your acts or omissions that violate any acceptable use policy of BroadVoice or of a third party provider to which BroadVoice is subject), you will be responsible for the full month's charges to the end of the current term, including without limitation unbilled charges, plus a disconnect fee if applicable, all of which immediately become due, payable and chargeable to your credit card.

on their terms of service.

Chances are the unlimited is also like the "unlimited bandwidth" that a lot of hosting companies over-sell. They sell it for marketing but if you happen to "over-use" it and possibly cause a strain on their servers, you can probably find yourself being terminated because of such.

On a cursory glance at Vonage's site, I did not see any asterisk with their unlimited plan. But their unlimited is for the United States and Canada, not other countres.

I would give them a go. If you find that they cut you off because you are making non stop calls then I would suggest going back to your old provider!

You can check out http://www.Lingo.com they are a very good company back up by Primus. I never had a problem with them and they have much more features than Vonage.

Good luck

This is what I do... I deal mostly with small to medium sized call centers. To be honest I've had a few customers try out the VOIP phones and they didn't like them. So they ended up going back to their normal lines. It all depends on how many minutes your going to use.. I can get you a rate around 1.7 cents, maybe lower depending on your volume. We would need to install a LD T-1 though. I can run a loop quote for you if you want, to see what that would cost at your location. Give me a call and we can go over your options and see what would be best for you.

We use Vonage too. It's not bad for what we need.

But you have to be careful about the round ups. Seems as though they only bill by minute, could get costly if your on a ton of short calls.
